Inspiring people to live a more creative life

How creativity can help YOU!

But why do I want to help you to get creative?

Answers on a postcard below ⬇️

I believe we all have a calling in life, and in the last few years I’ve been trying to figure out what mine could be. I knew it had something to do with art, but I believe our true purpose here on earth, is to be of service to others. So with that being said, I’ve recently come to the conclusion, that my calling on this weird and wonderful planet, is to inspire others to be more creative (and heal from trauma – yes we all have some trauma – but i’ll save that for another blog!)

Despite what you might think – we are all creative beings.

I cannot draw or paint to save my life. In fact, my children can do a better job than me! But my inability to be able to draw and paint hasn’t stopped me from artistically expressing myself. I am good at combining colours, shapes, textures, & patterns, so I choose to create art in the form of collage and interior styling.

Apart from imagination and a eye for detail, these two hobbies are both great ways of getting creative without having a specific artistic skill. In particular, collages are a simple, fun, and a inexpensive hobby, and you can use just about any materials to create one.

When being creative your mind is in the right frame to release old and out-of-date behavioral patterns.

How can creativity help you?

Unless you are already a creative person, you might not be aware of how much it can enrich your life. Implementing creative thinking to your day-to-day existence can make living so much more captivating, and you start to see life in new and exciting ways. There are many ways in which you can find yourself benefiting from having a creative mindset.

From personal experience, or research I found, here are a few ways creativity can benefit you.

  • Improves confidence, self-esteem and self-worth.
  • Decreases anxiety, depression and stress.
  • Reduces negative emotions.
  • Helps grief recovery.
  • Increases immunity and medical outcomes.
  • A great healing and meditative tool.
  • Builds character uniqueness and social identity.
  • A sense of achievement.
  • Connecting people. Involving yourself in teamwork or classes.
  • Unblocks old patterns and behavioural habits.
  • Creativity supports resilience.
  • Engages the mind, nurtures ideas and instils curiosity.
  • Creative expression gives a voice beyond words.
  • Creativity connects us to ourselves.

It has been scientifically proven that being creative can help us live a longer life.

Screen Addiction.

In my opinion, technology has somewhat erased people’s creativity. Whether it be your T.V, smart phone, computer games and even radio. Unfortunately, these days, lots of people favour these methods of entertaining themselves. I’m not having a dig, I’m just stating what is true. Lots of people think that ‘being creative’ is for others and not for them. But expanding our creativity is something we should make great effort to do. More precisely it’s something we should do to live a truly gratifying and rewarding life.

Finding a balance. When do you ever feel a sense of personal achievement after watching a film or wasting an hour scrolling on social media?

I choose to create art as it helps balance my emotions, and apart from dancing, making collages is my favourite pastime.

But other than art, what other creative hobbies are there?

You can guarantee whatever craft you fancy learning, they’ll be a class for it. If there’s not a class near you, then try Youtube. I am currently learning everything I need to know about making headdresses from Youtube, free of charge, from the comfort of my own living room. Some hobbies you may need help to get you started, other hobbies you may need to buy tools. Some hobbies are expensive, others cost very little. But it’s important to keep trying new activities until you find one that suits you and makes you feel good about yourself.

Creating gifts for loved ones.

Receiving a homemade gift is really special. I recently made this small 3D collage for a birthday gift, and to go alongside making the collage, I have created a short video. I hope it inspires you to make one too! Just in case you missed the video link at the top of this page, here it is again: How to make an Autumnal Collage

Why should we make handmade gifts for loved ones?

  • Uniqueness. A true one-of-a-kind gift.
  • More sentimental value.
  • Rewarding for the creator.
  • Can be surprisingly inexpensive to make.
  • You can personalise handmade gifts
  • The effort and thought that has gone into making a handmade gift will be evident and much appreciated.

However you choose to be creative, I hope this blog has inspired you in some way. I’d love for you to join my new Facebook group ‘Look what I made’ where you can meet other creatives beings, inspire others to learn a new hobby, or to show off your creations to gain a wider audience. You never know, you may even get a commision, order, or a gig from the back of it too! It doesn’t matter if you’re just a nosey parker, a complete novice, an amateur, or experienced in your craft.

You are all welcome.

Love, Emma x
